On 23 November, on a beautiful day, 320 runners, including 12 open teams and 30 school teams, completed this hilly, scenic 5km course and almost 400 walkers covered the walk route, starting in Cyberport, and circling around Sandy Bay and Victoria Road. About 100 participants used wheelchairs or had other mobility difficulties and chronic health conditions, but many of them also selected the 4km walk, over the 1.5km flat route in the Waterfront Garden. Some of our marshals asked them to reconsider their decision, but a participant noted: "it's important for me to achieve a new goal even if it's difficult".
This event is quite unique in having both a competitive and family race as well as a "testing" if short walk for families and friends to join together to support programmes for people with disabilities in the mainland and Hong Kong. This year, in spite of all the other events on the same day, the number of participants (720), volunteers (250) and funds raised (about 800,000) equaled last year: fantastic!
Ms Cheung Lai Yin won the HKSR President's Cup for first lady and the Centaline Cup for the Men's Champion went to Mr. Wong Chi Wai. Two record times were made. Arthur Chan, at just 12 years, was second overall in a record for his age group of 19:59; and Wan Sui Han ran 27:44 to take the record in the ladies veteran's category.
